Tamarillo is also known as a tree tomato. There are yellow and red tamarillos. The EAT ME tamarillo is a red variety. The flesh of this fruit is orange and contains black edible seeds. Tamarillo has a slightly sweet and intense flavour. The skin is bitter and as such usually doesn’t get eaten.

- the name tamarillo was chosen in 1967 as the word ‘tree tomato’ was confusing in regards to the ‘ordinary’ tomato. Tamarillo is made up of two words, the word ‘Tama’ which means leadership in Maori and the Spanish word ‘Amarillo which means yellow.
- tamarillos grow on trees. It takes about 16 weeks to develop from flower to fruit.
